November 15th
Highlights
- We
created a video sharing all the French we’ve learned so far! We are
excited to share them at student-led conferences.
- After
learning about First Nations petroglyphs, we are creating our own
pictographs that tell a story of a past memory.
- We
completed patterns using addition, subtraction, multiplication to complete
a t-table.
- We
started some new winter art projects using oil pastels and paint.
- Please
continue to practice multiplication facts with your children. When
students memorize those facts it helps them in their math work.

had a great presentation about inclusion. Please ask them about their
special socks.

On
Thursday, November 28 at 6:30 pm, In lieu of a Christmas concert, we
will be hosting an evening of Gathering and Giving for our SVS community.
The gathering will start with a 30 minute Pow Wow mash-up led by Jess who
taught students how to hoop dance last year. Following Jess's presentation,
Ryan and his elder will be blessing the mural.
The
giving portion of the evening will follow the gathering. Student leaders
and teachers will take a lead at different stations of giving around the
school. Families can circulate and participate in any station they are
interested in. Please watch your email inbox for an invite to RSVP.
- Birthday
Bags for the Food Bank:
There are 100 kids a month who are able to have a birthday party because
of this program. We are asking various businesses in the community
as well as parents (before the event) for donations of all the supplies
you need to host a birthday party. At this station, we will assemble
the bags and make birthday cards.

- Cards
for Meals on Wheels:
Meals on Wheels provides healthy meals to people who are unable to cook
for themselves, whether it is an injury, illness, disability, the loss of
a loved one, or other circumstances. The meals are delivered daily.
At this station, we will create birthday or Christmas cards to be
included with the meal to brighten someone's day.
- Food
Donations for the Food Bank: We will have 8 Food Hampers around the school to
collect donations. At this station, families can donate food and
design the collection boxes.
- SVS
Rocks Kindness:
At this station, people can create kindness rocks to be shared with the
community. Anyone can paint a rock and drop it off somewhere in the
community for someone else to find. A piece of paper could accompany it
saying, "This is a kindness rock. Do a random act of kindness
and then pass the rock on".
- SVS
Hampers: Every year, the staff
creates hampers for families at our school who need a helping hand at
Christmas. At this station, we will decorate the Christmas boxes we
will be giving out to those families.
