February 28th Weekly Update


Highlights:

-A good time was had by all this Friday at our mini Carnivale! A huge thank-you to Mrs. Boulanger for organizing this on such short notice and to our wonderful parent volunteers that helped with our pseudo Maple taffy.

-We are on the home stretch of our novel study of the book Wonder. In correlation to this, we have been exploring various Kindness activities.

-In math, we have finished our Data Collection unit and have moved on to Fractions.

-We look forward to our Celebration of Learning on Thursday, March 12th where all our Heritage Projects will be on display. We hope everyone is well on their way with their projects! We took time this week to orient, plan and begin the projects.  Please continue to work on them with your child this weekend and return them to the school next Wednesday and Thursday, at which time, we can assist with any final touches


Reminders:

-The Heritage project is due on Wednesday March 11th and will be presented/shared on Thursday March 12th. Here are some important details regarding the project:
    • In class time will be given to students next Wednesday March 4 and Thursday March 5, as well as the week leading up to the presentation
    • Students need a visual presentation, if your family requires support to buy some supplies please contact your students teacher. They can create a poster, trifold, powerpoint presentation, scrapbook, etc..
    • If you are looking for a way to digitize the family tree portion of this assignment, have a look at this website: https://www.familyecho.com/
    • There will be 2 parts of the Heritage Fair that you can plan to attend on March 12th
      • March 12th from 1:45pm to 3:15pm
      • March 12th from 6:30pm to 7:30pm
  • Parent teacher Interviews March 19th and March 20th (You will be booking 15 minute time slots for a private interview) An email will be sent to all families when the booking system is open. 
    • Interview times on March 19th 2:30pm - 4:30pm and 5:30pm - 8:00pm
    • Interview times on March 20th 9:00am - 12:30pm
  • Thursday March 19th - early dismissal at 1:30
  • Friday March 20th - No School
  • Spring Break from Monday March 23rd - Friday March 27th

Highlights:

  • We would like to welcome Mr. Fielder, our student-teacher from U of C back to 4D! He will be with us until April 17th. 
  • On Tuesday you received an email regarding the Heritage project that is due on Wednesday, March 11th and will be presented/shared on Thursday, March 12th. Here are some important details regarding the project:
  • In-class time will be given to students in 4D from Feb 24th to 28th. Please have students bring the information that they need to start their project on Monday.

Highlights:

  • We have been working really hard to learn and master long division these last two weeks. We are proud of all our students' efforts and perseverance in learning this challenging concept. We are starting our second workbook Jump Math 4.2 next week! 
  • We are continuing to recognize acts of kindness around the classroom. We completed a circle of courage and shared the qualities we need most in a friend. 
  • Thank you for all the effort you put in to help your child plan and build a self-propelled car. We saw many great looking models today!  If your child forgot their car or hasn’t completed it please bring it in on Monday as we will be testing them then. 

Reminders:
  • Skating is next week! There are skates and helmets available at the skate shack at no charge. Students require helmets to skate but cannot wear bike helmets! If they do not have appropriate headgear they will be asked to use a helmet from the skate shack.
    • Dewald/Neumiller’s classes will skate on Monday from 10:27 - 11:03 (skate tying will begin around 10:15) and Tuesday from 11:03 - 11:39 (skate tying will begin around 10:45).
    • Boulanger/DeSmet/Brophy’s classes will skate on Monday from 11:39 - 12:15 (skate tying will begin around 11:20) and Tuesday from 10:27 - 11:03 (skate tying will begin around 10:15).
  • Teacher’s Convention is on Thursday, Feb 13th and Friday, Feb 14th - No school for students.
  • Family Day is on Monday, Feb 17th, school closed
  • Continue to practice your basic facts in multiplication and division. We are working on the standard algorithm for long division in class.
  • Mrs. Brophy will be away from school this coming Monday and Tuesday. She will forward emails to the appropriate people but please make sure to contact the office regarding absences.
